You've heard it before, health is a journey, not a destination. It's true, it's important to enjoy the ride. If you don't, it just won't stick long-term. You may set a health goal, for example "I will work out every day!" Even if you're highly motivated to do it every day, the reality of daily life and endless demands on time creep in, sweeping you further away from reaching your health goal. When this occurs, try these simple health tips to keep yourself on track.
Focus on taking small steps forward, rather than making radical changes. Small steps are attainable and allow you to easily identify the things that are working for you and the things that aren't. Over time, small steps add up and lead to lasting change.
Here are some simple health tips to kick off your personal journey towards a lasting health and happiness. Keep in mind that we're all bio-individually different, so tune in to what truly works for you, no need to try all of these at once, just pick 1-3 tips that resonate the most. Remember the only person that you need to impress is yourself.
Eating Habits Tips
Sit down for meals. Take your time, taste food and allow it to nourish the body. Slowing down when you eat helps support digestion.
Carry a water bottle. If you have water on hand, you're more likely to drink it.
Start with Vegetables. When building meals, put vegetables on your plate first. Aim to do this for two meals a day to increase your fiber intake.
Express gratitude. Boost pleasure by appreciating each meal.
Movement
Stand up every 30min. Get the blood flowing on a regular basis. Set a timer if it helps.
Fit it in. Look for small opportunities to squeeze more movement in your day. Take the stairs rather than an elevator, get off the bus or subway one stop early, or park farther away from your destination.
Aim to walk at least 10 minutes a day. Keep the goal easy in order to achieve it, then increase it when you're ready. Acknowledge your progress.
Sign up for something new. Challenge yourself to try a new activity. You don't have to ever do it again if you don't enjoy it, but you might surprise yourself and find a new hobby you love.
Mindset
Laugh more. Challenge yourself to take yourself lightly, choose humorous activities, and spend more time with people who make you laugh.
Take a breath. When you feel stressed or overwhelmed, encourage yourself to stop and take 3 deep breaths. Energy shift is palpable, it works every time. Give it a try.
Replace "should" with "could". When negative self-talk arises, flip the "should" to "could". Choose to empower yourself rather than put yourself down.
Say a daily affirmation. Write down an empowering statement and put it where you'll see it every day. Say the affirmation every morning and/or evening.
Self-care
Prioritize sleep. Rather than fitting sleep in when you can, set a sleep goal and try to stick to your bed time routine.
Relax and recharge. Embrace quite time. Lie down, take some deep breaths, nap in the middle of the day,.
Increase circulation. Scrub your entire body with a hot, damp washcloth or use a dry brush.
Start a flossing routine. Flossing is an easy way to improve dental hygiene and support oral microbiome. It just takes a few min each night.
