Prep Time 10 minutes
Cooking Time 25-30 minutes
Yields 6-8 Servings
Ingredients
5 medium size Granny Smith apples (organic, you can leave the peel on for extra fiber)
3/4 cup of brown sugar
1tsp baking powder
1 tbsp flour
1/2 juice of whole lemon
1tsp freshly graded nutmeg
1tsp cinnamon
1tsp allspice
1tsp cloves
2 pie crusts (store bought or homemade)
1-2 tbsp butter
Directions
Preheat the oven to 425F
Wash and scrub apples
Roughly cut apples into small cubes and toss with the rest of ingredients. Make sure that each piece is well coated in the mix. If you don't have a specific spice, just add more of what you have on hand (for example, no nutmeg, substitute for more cinnamon).
Use one pie crust for the bottom of the pie, fill it up with the apple mix
Use one pie crust for the top, make sure that the edges are sealed well.
Pierce top pie crust a few times with a fork to allow for steam to come out
Lightly spread butter on top crust (omit if not using)
Bake for 25-30 min until the edges are crisp.
Let the apple pie cool down for 5-10min and then serve with ice cream or with a nice cup of herbal tea.
Enjoy!
