In our fast-paced world filled with endless tasks, digital distractions, and the constant pressure to stay connected, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and disconnected from the simple joys of life. These are my 10 practical tips that can help you slow down, savor the moment, and create a more intentional and nourishing life.
1. Prioritize Daily Results vs Goals
Start your week by identifying the 10x or 20% of tasks that truly matter using the 80/20 rule. By focusing on the most important results you want to attain not goals, you eliminate the stress of trying to accomplish everything at once, most of which fit into 2x or 80%. Instead of setting goals, commit to results you want to have by the end of the day. Reflect on your week's end to assess 20% result you've attained and what added value to your life, and what fits into 80% that you may need reconsider for the following week. I practice this by setting 3 result for the day and completing a daily reflection at the end of each day, and then compliment this daily results prioritization by end of the week review. It's similar to what my clients do in my 30 days to 10x Your Health program.
2. Cut Personal Internet Use in Half
Challenge yourself to reduce personal internet use, especially on social media, by 50%. Embrace the intentional use of technology, and reclaim that time for exploring new hobbies, exercising, or deeply nourishing activities by simply being present with yourself.
3. Enjoy Nature
Take a 5 to 10-minute break to step outside, breathe fresh air, and disconnect from the world. Nature has a grounding and nurturing effect, providing a quick and effective way to reset your mindset.
4. Eat Slower
Transform your meals into mindful experiences that's deeply nourishing for your body and soul by savoring each bite. Slow down, connect with the nourishment on your plate, and appreciate the textures, flavors, smells, all of it. Eating slower can enhance your relationship with food and promote a healthier lifestyle, in addition to helping you lose weight, improve digestion and feel lighter.
5. Connect with Family and Friends
Set aside dedicated, phone-free time to connect with your loved ones on a daily basis. Whether it's a family game night or a leisurely cup of tea with a friend, create intentional moments for meaningful connections that make you feel alive.
6. Make Time for Yourself
Invest in your well-being by taking time for yourself. No, it's not selfish to do so, in fact we become resentful when we don't make time for ourselves. I've certainly felt this way many times, the mom guilt is real, the daughter, sister, wife guilt - name it, we've all experienced it. But you can't pour out of an empty cup. Simple act, whether it's a solo walk, a relaxing bath, or a hobby that nourishes and gives you joy (for me this is surfing!), self-care is not selfish—it's essential for recharging your energy and being fully present for others.
7. Allow for More Time
Build flexibility into your schedule by allocating extra minutes for tasks. This simple adjustment prevents rushing through daily activities, reducing stress and promoting a more relaxed approach to your day. If you have extra time left over, even better!
8. Take the Scenic Route
Invite a sense of wonder into your daily commute by exploring new routes. Driving through scenic landscapes or choosing a different walking path can be a refreshing way to stimulate your mind and body.
9. Start Your Day with Meditation
Begin your work with a few moments of meditation. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and set a positive tone for the day ahead. Meditation practice can enhance focus, reduce stress, and foster a sense of calm.
10. Remember Your Intentions
Each morning, take a few moments to reflect on your life goals, health aspirations, and overall intentions. What is your intention? Mindful practice helps you stay focused throughout the day and ensures your actions align with your long-term objectives and overall wellbeing.
Give one of these 10 Nourishing tips a try, and observe how much calmer you feel. You may even notice that you're living a more intentional, balanced, and healthy life. Slowing down doesn't mean sacrificing productivity; instead, it gives you permission to be intentional, focus on 10x, on your health and what makes you feel alive. Savor the richness of each moment and cultivate a deeper connection with yourself and those around you as you slow down.
Embrace the art of slowing down and embark on a journey to a more nourishing and intentional way of living. Your future self will thank you.
