DIY Dish Soap

If you're looking to make one simple improvement to your health, pick a big rock.

A big rock is one area of your health that you attend to each day. For me, that's food.

Ever since we started buying organic, I realized WAIT! "we had been eating organic food on dish plates that had been washed with conventional dish soap.

Most conventional dish soap or dishwasher detergents are loaded with hormone-disrupting chemicals. This prompted me to explore how to make my own Dish Soap that's non-toxic and quick to make.

I recommend doubling, even tripling the ingredients, if you want to make in bulk. Otherwise, one batch lasts for approximately 2 weeks in our household.

Making your own dish soap is less expansive than buying plastics filled containers with dish soap every few weeks, and it's more environmentally friendly.

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup Sal Suds

  • 1 and 1/3 cup distilled water

  • 40 drops rosemary or lavender essential oil (or keep it scent free)

  • 1 TBSP washing soda

  • 1 TBSP table salt + 3 TBSP hot water

Instructions

In a small glass dish, dissolve salt with hot water - stir until salt is completely dissolved.

Pour 1 and 1/3 cup of distilled water in a medium pot.

Place medium pot on stove over low-to-medium heat.

Add Sal Suds, washing soda and essential oils (if using) to the pot.

Mix well and bring to boil, then turn off heat immediately.

Add in dissolved salt mixture to the pot and stir to combine. Note- this thickens the soap, don't skip this step.

Pour DIY Dish Soap into a soap dispenser and use.
